5th Year Art students participated in a collaborative mixed-media textile project exploring the themes of Heritage and Tradition. Inspired by The Map by Rachel Fallon and Alice Maher, students explored ideas connected to memory, identity, local history, and personal heritage through stitching, fabric manipulation, cyanotype printing, crochet, drawing, and mixed-media experimentation.
Students worked both individually and collaboratively to contribute symbolic imagery, textures, and personal responses towards a large-scale tapestry installation. Students were delighted to work directly with their support study artist, Rachel Fallon, throughout the project. Rachel visited the school and gave insight into her practice and artistic process before students had the opportunity to visit her studio in Temple Bar.
The project fostered creativity, confidence, cross-curricular learning, and a deeper understanding of contemporary textile and socially engaged art practice, linking strongly to both the Visual Studies and practical elements of Leaving Certificate Art.
