Building on the success of their previous Creative Engagement mural project, this year’s initiative focused on strengthening connection, belonging, and wellbeing within the school’s boarding community through the creation of two large-scale murals in the boys’ and girls’ boarding houses.
Working collaboratively with professional mural artist Garreth Joyce, a group of TY students comprising both boarding and day students participated in all stages of the creative process, including literary research, concept development, design planning, and mural implementation. The murals were inspired by the quotations “Hope is the thing with feathers” by Emily Dickinson and “Home should be an anchor, a port in a storm” by Henry Ward Beecher.
The project fostered creativity, collaboration, student voice, and a strong sense of ownership while strengthening connections between the boarding houses and the wider school community. Due to refurbishment schedules and necessary health and safety requirements, the project is currently in its final completion phase, with remaining work scheduled for Summer 2026.
