Patterns of Place
The students of ballinode community college created a ceramic tile installation, based on the the theme patterns in place, firstly they visited newgrange for inspiration and then developed individual designs based on their current personal experiences in school, they were encouraged to use pattern as imagery within the pieces.
The visiting artist then demonstrated different techniques to use including creating individual stamps to be use on the tiles, each student created and individual tile and then collaborated on a number of tiles using the stamps they had made. When the tiles had been fired and glazed students discussed the best location for the tiles and decided to use them to create a installation around the base of a tree in the courtyard of the school. They selected the tree and they fell it was a special place for all students in the school. Students explored possible layouts and then completed the finished piece.
