The Legacy Tree
The Legacy Tree Project brought together a 5th Year group and visual artist Glen Gibson to create a collaborative 3D wire installation symbolising wellbeing, personal growth, and the ethos of St. Mary’s Secondary School, Mallow. Over two days, students explored wire-sculpting techniques, developed concepts linked to CEIST values, and worked in small groups to construct the final piece. Guided by the artist and supported by the Art Department and school management, students engaged in hands-on learning that strengthened their creativity, teamwork, and problem‑solving skills. The project also highlighted student voice, allowing each participant to contribute meaningfully to a permanent artwork for the school community. The completed Legacy Tree now stands as a vibrant symbol of connection, collaboration, and the creative spirit of St. Mary’s.
