Dingle youth abstractly express their surroundings interpreted by weavers in landlocked kingdom of Lesotho.
- Project Title: Partiocht Chruthaioch i bPobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne
- Participants: Transition Year Students Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne, Art Teachers Brenda Friel and Jane Ní Mhurchú, Artist Maree Hensey and Documentary Photographer Eileen O’Leary.
- Project commences in November 2012
- Maree Hensey through on line video conferencing and school based workshops facilitated students to create an iconic design to be translated into a large scale weaving.
- Through these workshops students were given the tools to visually express the colour, shape and vibrancy of the Corca Dhuibne landscape.
- The title of the work is chosen by students: IMRAM: An old Irish word referencing epic journey across seas.
- February ’13 2013:Brenda Friel, Maree Hensey, Mary Ní Normaile and Transition Year Students Anna Aranowska and Josie Knight travel to Lesotho and hand over the commission to Setsoto Design
- Weavers Motselisi Ntai, ‘Makamoho Setenane, ‘Mampotokang Tebeli create IMRAM
- This process is documented photographically.
- Official Launch of weaving and photography exhibition: 6pm, Thursday 18th April, Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne Dhuibhne, Co Kerry
- Special guess at launch include Irish Ambassador to Lesotho His Excellency Gerry Gervin, First Secretary to Ireland , Mr Machachamise and Dermot Carney, Creative Engagement, NAPD (National Association of Principals and Deputy Principals)
