Wet Felting Creative Engagement Project
Second-year Art students at Scoil Mhuire Buncrana participated in a two-week wet felting project in collaboration with Gabrielle Henry. Over six workshop days, 40 students explored both dry needle felting and wet felting techniques, learning how to create texture, form, and layered designs using natural wool fibres. Students experimented with materials before collaboratively designing and producing large-scale felted artworks for display within the school.
The project encouraged creativity, teamwork, mindfulness, and problem-solving while giving students the opportunity to work directly with a practising artist. Students also learned about sustainability, textile traditions, and contemporary craft practices. Throughout the project, students documented their progress through photographs and visual process work. The completed artworks were showcased within the school community and shared through the school newsletter and social media platforms, celebrating student creativity and engagement with the arts.
