Bród

This is a textiles project created in collaboration with felt artist Emily Thompson. Students designed and created a wall hanging which will be installed permanently in our school. The piece is called Bród and is a celebration of what it means to be a student in Coláiste/Gaelcholáiste Choilm, combined with stories from our cultural heritage. The piece depict students beginning their educational journey. The journey is represented by referenced the Irish mythology and heritage. The stepping stones link with the Giant’s Causeway. The student fishing represents the search for knowledge, and is reminiscent of the Salmon of Knowledge. The stone arch is a creative Engagement project that was made many years ago and still stands in our school. The oak tree and swallows are all part of our school crest and represent growth and freedom. The piece combines techniques such as wet felting, needle felting and embroidery.
