Led by artist Patrick Strahan, this two-day workshop immersed Senior Cycle students and students from the Solas Room into the ancient art of blacksmithing.
The project focused on “old world” techniques, including thermal management, drawing out, and scrolling. Students transformed raw steel into organic, decorative forms, moving from initial design to traditional finishes. The project successfully bridged the gap between heritage trade and contemporary art, empowering students to see themselves as makers while strengthening the school’s commitment to inclusive, creative education. The result was a profound sense of achievement and a lasting impact on student confidence.
